10 Characteristics of Language Dialects
Here are 10 characteristics to help you identify a dialect.
Client Education in the Translation Industry
Client Education
The Geo Group is an education-based company. We believe that education, efficient communication, and long-term commitment are the secrets to quality output. For this reason we ask our employees to learn the corporate culture of our clients and to deliver this information to the translators. At the same time, we educate our clients about our industry in order to set up proper expectations and an efficient, customized translation process from day one. We believe that, in order to deliver the quality products our clients are looking for, we need to know what they need and they need to know what we do.
We divide our clients into three different categories: beginner, intermediate, and advanced, and we tailor our complimentary client-education accordingly.
- Beginner buyers rely on The Geo Group’s Account Executives for all-new information about localizing and translating original documents; understanding linguistics; technology; desktop publishing; client review management; and simultaneous, consecutive, and telephone interpreting. We team with our in-house specialists to educate our clients for the benefit of both companies, in terms of cost and time savings.
- Intermediate buyers are ready to tackle efficiencies. Producing high-quality communications on time and at lower costs are the topics of interest for this group. We offer free industry-specific Webinars for clients, customized to their needs.
- Advanced buyers set parameters for their vendor-partners. GeoSoft, our offering of proprietary translation software programs, is an outcome of advanced buyer requests for process improvements.
We value all of our clients. One of them, more than any other, exemplifies our educational approach: Swagelok.
Case Study: Complimentary Client Education
When advanced buyers at the Swagelok Company* were dissatisfied with their prior language provider, they started interviewing new vendors. The Geo Group was well suited for this expanding global manufacturer of fluid-system products. Working together since 2005, education, communication, and commitment to their vision have been the keys to our successful relationship. The Geo Group has invested countless hours hosting educational sessions and translator/client collaborations, attending conferences, and participating in their corporate meetings all over the world. Our goal was to become engrained in their culture and philosophy to better serve them. The investment has far exceeded our expectations. Together we have introduced new products and technologies beneficial to both our industries. We’ve developed business plans and streamlined project processes that have saved both our companies time and money. Through close collaboration, we’ve grown together these past four years.
We’re proud to present these benchmarks as a tribute to our success:
- Swagelok worked with The Geo Group to develop their communication plan and entered into a Professional Services Agreement.
- The Geo Group helped shape and is committed to the Swagelok Communication Guidelines, which define style, format, and layout standards for all Swagelok communication, including abbreviations, contractions and unit symbols, measurements, codes, brand messages, and globalization requirements.
- After a meeting with Swagelok, in which a tool emerged to streamline the review process, The Geo Group developed U-Proof, our proprietary client-review software. Today, many of The Geo Group’s clients find a free solution to their review issues with U-Proof.
- Upon Swagelok’s request, The Geo Group hosted a Localization Benchmarking meeting in Chicago. Several Geo Group clients attended to learn about the latest innovations and process efficiencies. The meeting sessions focused on translation strategies, legal requirements, processes and tools, and quality assessment.
- The Geo Group helped Swagelok decrease costs with Trados training sessions, showing them how to achieve 100% terminology matches with an innovative translation memory software tool.
- The Geo Group presented Swagelok’s successes as a “best practice” case study at the recent Native Language Communications Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, showing quantifiable productivity gains due to collaborative work.
- The Geo Group offers complimentary assistance in creating and maintaining a glossary for each language required by Swagelok.
- The Geo Group translators are active participants of the Swagelok University, a virtual campus used by the company to educate its workforce with a variety of development and training programs.
- Swagelok distributors, Geo Group owners, employees, and translators attend the annual Native Language Communications Conferences in Europe and Asia to network, improve processes, and conduct educational sessions on GeoSoft products.
Having been in the translation industry since 1995 has taught us that no translation project is exactly like the previous one. Each client talks to a different audience, in a different industry, to different countries, with a different corporate style. Nevertheless, many translation companies will offer their “infallible” quality system to guarantee the industry’s quality standards. At The Geo Group, we would prefer to educate ourselves about our clients and educate them about us to develop the translation process that fits them the best, and to deliver the quality product they require. As with every language service provider in the translation industry, we measure the quality of our translations, track our timelines, and verify invoice accuracy. But we also know that measuring quality at any other point is useless if the client isn’t happy with the end result. Quality is ultimately measured by overall client satisfaction with the final product. Tell us what you need, and we’ll teach you how to get there.
